November 5, 2018 

  

The day started for me like every other day I just had school and was only free at 4 o'clock. 

 At 4.15 pm I had to be at the station because then the Greeks arrived. When the Greeks arrived we had to wait another 45 minutes for the Spaniards to arrive. When I had my Greek and Spaniard with me, we went to my house. The Greek boy had a difficult name: Panagotis and the Spaniard Eduardo. We drove home through Hoogeveen and drove past De Groene Driehoek. 

 When we arrived at home I showed them their room and they got time to install themselves, then I showed them my house and we went downstairs to eat. It was cold in the house. The boiler had gone off the net this afternoon. Fortunately, we were able to use a small camping radiator to drive out the worst cold. But showering did not work. And that was too bad for our guests, because they had a pretty long journey. 

 We went to the table. The boys thought this was special, because they were both unaccustomed to this. In their own country, they eat when they feel like it, and never sit down at the table with each other. The table was covered. The pans were on the table. The guests sat on a chair on one side of the table. My brother sat at the head of the table and my mother and I sat on the couch on the other side of the table, at least ... that was the intention: KRAAAAAAAAAAAK! My mother and I were under the table. The legs were snapped from under the couch. Everyone was quiet, until we started to laugh very loudly. Then Panagotis and Eduardo also had to laugh. 

 After dinner we went to bake a cake for my birthday, which was my birthday the next day. That was very funny, because the boys were really not used to being allowed to do something themselves in the kitchen. They started very carefully, but in the end we had a lot of fun, especially when Panagotis smashed the strawberries on the cake. Later in the evening we also went to play board games like hallie gallie and jakkie bak kipkak. Very cosy. Pana did not understand, but Eduardo was very smart. That night we went in early because they were very tired of traveling. 

November 6, 2018 

 I was woken up this day because it was my birthday, the boy from Greece also sang along but the Spanish boy did not quite understand it. We went to breakfast and they found our breakfast very special and delicious and wanted to try everything. Eduardo loved cheese, he had never seen a cheese slicer. We did not notice what he was doing until we saw that he was slaughtering the cheese block with the cheese slicer. He hit it hard. Then I realized that everything here is really different for us than at home. 

We had to walk to school because I did not have 3 bikes and on the way we passed the deer camp and they wanted to make a photo of every animal they saw walking. When we arrived at school we received a speech from the school's director and afterwards everyone had to introduce themselves. Then in groups we gave a tour of the school and then we went to the city. In the city we went on a kind of search through all the important places in our center. Along the way we had to make crazy selfies and check out buildings. Then we also got a tour of the Hoogeveen mill. After the tour we all went to the town hall to make a group photo by an official photographer. 

Then back home for dinner. After dinner we went to the house of Danny because he also had people in the house and that also seemed nice to me. That night we were home late and we immediately went to bed because the next day we would have a long day. 

November 7, 2018 

Pfffff, what are the guests slow in the morning. They can not be burned ahead. Everything is going very slowly. I have already showered, dressed and covered the table ... they come downstairs in their pyamas. They eat very slowly. Do not make their packed lunch ready, I have to explain them very often. But fortunately we were still on time in time. 

 When we arrived at school, we started working in groups on the project again. We all had to figure out things that you could do in the province of Drenthe. Then we started designing and working out our own invented company. 

That afternoon we went by bus to camp Westerbork it was a journey of about half an hour and we stopped at the museum because we first had to watch a film about the camp, this was the only film that was made ewe and camp. Then we walked through the museum, it was a shame that there was nothing in English. Then we took the bus to the camp itself and the route went along the original route of the past. In the camp we went to look at the monument and at the work of art. It was a shame we did not have a guide in the camp itself because we lost a lot of information. All in all, I found it very educational and an important point to go because it is an important point in our history. 

In the mailbox was the Hoogeveense newspaper with our photo that was taken yesterday at the town hall. This was nice to see. 

In the evening we got guests. The Italian teachers came to eat with us. The intention was to maintain our Dutch culture, but we could not reach them and ended up at half past seven at the table. My mother had all made different stews. They have really tasted everything and there is a lot eaten by everyone. What stood out was that the teachers were very much on their mobile. We do not think that is good in the Netherlands during dinner, but with them it is apparently normal. 

At ten o'clock we went to Kiri for a game of bowling with Mike, Niels and their guests. This was very nice. The bitterballen went well with the guests. The shoes they found strange, they had never experienced this. We were late in bed. But it was nice to get to know each other in a different relaxing way. 

November 8 

This was a faster morning with the door going out because I had left them a little longer. I had already made their packed lunches so that we would be faster in the morning and now I know exactly what they like. Panagotis loves colored sprinkles. He does it everywhere. It is also striking that he mixes everything, for example all kinds of desserts we put on the table after the hot food he mixes in a bowl and then eats it laughing. Yummy Yummy! Eduardo is more of the meat and cheese. 

 At school, we first started working in groups on our project. Then we followed a math class together with the Greek teacher, who is math teacher in Greece. He found our books and teaching material very interesting. As he has been teaching, he had never seen it in his country. He was impressed by the way we are taught. This was also because we did the lesson in Kahoot. They really do not know this in Greece. 

With the bus we went to Wildlands this afternoon. They found it a very special zoo. They also did not expect that there would be a roller coaster in the zoo. They enjoyed the boat by the jungle. And with the autosafari about the savannah they found it very cool. In their country the animals in the zoo are all in lofts. That is why it was extra special that the animals here have large areas where they seem to roam freely. It was also nice that it was quiet in the zoo, so we could see everything properly. 

In the evening we ate at my father, traditional Dutch snatch. That worked out well because it was very cold that night. Eduardo really liked it. Panagotis thought it was dirty. But he did not like healthy food anyway. We went to bed this evening in time. 

November 9 

I have prepared the lunch packets again, because they were getting up more slowly than the previous mornings. It was raining too. My mother offered to take us to school by car because it was raining, but she never does that and we have to show our guests as much of our Dutch life as possible. So: just walking through the rain to school. At first they looked a bit strange, but they also thought it was funny. Fortunately, it did not rain so hard. 

 At school we were given half an hour to prepare our presentation that we had to present for the entire Erasmus group. It looked very good. Everyone had done his / her best. And show good results. We had a kind of small closure of the school week. Then we went by bus to the Bonte Wever in Assen. Nice to swim with each other. When we got there, we all saw very smart people in dance clothes. This turned out to be a World Cup ballroom match. This was funny to see. 

The pool was very nice. Especially the sauna, the rapids, the turk steam bath and the hot tub. This made our guests the best trip! 

After dinner we went into town. Shopping evening in the center with all decorated Christmas decorations. They liked this. There were many people from the Erasmus project in the city. This was what we had discussed. First shopping and then to club Aces. This was super cozy with each other. We were back in time because we had to get up early the next morning. 

November 10 

To get up early. Half past eight at school, because the bus left for Amsterdam at a quarter to eight. The bus trip was pretty cozy. Some people were sleeping, others chatting socially. We first went to Nemo. They found it very special that people here in the Netherlands talk about sex, they were very laughing about it. They wanted to go straight to the center. But first we went to take a cruise through Amsterdam. This was pretty boring. Then we had time to go into the city ourselves. I went out with the Greeks. I have shown them many souvenir shops and the ramparts of course. They found this very crazy. Panagotis wanted to take pictures of the ladies, but I explained to him that this was not the intention haha. Actually, we had too little time for ourselves. 

We went back to Hoogeveen. A quick home and then back to school for the farewell party. Every family had brought food and a delicious buffet was ready. The dessert buffet simply had to be monitored, which I found very special. The 'greasy' unhealthy snacks went the fastest. It was an evening in which there was a lot of dancing and a lot of crying. I thought that was quite special that the foreign guests were so emotional. The Dutch did not cry so much for so long. We are a bit more down-to-earth, I think. 

After everything was cleaned up, we still sat at home with a group. That was nice. 

November 11 

Sleep in. Delicious. And afterwards a very extensive breakfast with each other. Making lunch packages. Packing suitcases. An equally extensive shower. And then it was time to bring our guests to the station. This again was an emotional moment for many. We have embraced each other and agreed to keep in touch. 

At home I removed the beds and decorated my room for myself ... secretly I thought it was nice that I had my room again for myself. 

It was a super nice week. I really enjoyed showing the boys our country and our customs. What I also like is that I still have a lot of contact with Panagotis. We even agreed that I will go to Greece this summer. The project stops for me at the end of this school year and I can not go to Greece with the Erasmus project. I think it's great that I can now go to Greece to see how they live there
